A NEW poetic autobiography has been released, looking back at Malton.

The new book, 'All Roads Lead to Malton', by John Botterill, takes readers back to the author’s childhood in the town during the 1960s and 1970s.

John, 65, who now lives in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, first lived in Rillington before moving to Norton.

In his book, he recalls memories of the Palace Cinema, Norton School (which he attended), and dancing at the Milton Rooms.

John, a retired teacher, said the inspiration for the book came following the birth of his grandson.

At the time, he wrote a poem celebrating the birth – which he said, “took him back to his childhood” and sparked the initial thought for the book.

In the book are also many references to the time, with John adding that it is sure to prove a hit to fans of ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘All Creatures Great and Small'.

Proceeds from the book will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The author picked this charity as he said they were “fantastic” in helping his daughter, Laura, when she recovered from a lymphoma ten years ago - and wanted to do something to repay them.
