THEY may have had a top 10 hit, but Helmsley band One Night Only haven't forgotten where it all started.

Taking time out from their busy schedule, the lads returned to Ryedale School in Nawton where they originally formed, to perform a special one-off gig.

"It's a real privilege to come and play in front of the students, it's just really good fun, it brings back good memories, " said singer and guitarist George Craig.

"It's really good to know that the kids really listen to us and they knew all our songs, " said guitarist Mark Hayton.

"It's sort of where we got together and it started properly.

''It will always be the place where everything kicked off, " added keyboard player Jack Sails.

Along with bandmates Daniel Parkin, bassist and Sam Ford, drummer, they treated fans and former schoolmates to favourites from their album, Started a Fire, including Time, You & Me and their hit single Just for Tonight.

Head teacher Geoff Jenkinson said: "I'm extremely proud of them, they're very talented musicians, smashing lads, and it's a pleasure to have them back in school."

Adoring fans were more than impressed with their performance, which was given in the darkened school hall last Friday afternoon.

One member of the audience, Louise White, said: "They were awesome. I think they're going to do really well, and I want them to do really well.

''When they were younger we used to hang out with them and now they're pop stars. It's weird."

And the lads had one last message for Gazette & Herald readers: "We'd like to say thank you to the Gazette & Herald for all its support."
