A New programme of live music events in Ryedale is being launched this weekend.

Bloom Arts, which aims to cultivates arts and culture, is bringing up and coming bands from across Yorkshire to village venues starting on Saturday, March 26, at Terrington Village Hall.

Helen Mahoney, Bloom Arts Director, said: “After all the challenges that both village halls and performers have faced since March 2020, I’m delighted to finally launch Noisy Villages.

“The aim is to give a wide variety of musicians the opportunity to play in rural venues, and for local communities to enjoy something a bit different on their doorstep. We want to try and make it easier for people to get out to music and cultural events – the events are open to all ages and the flexibility of the venues means we have plenty of space to make sure everyone feels comfortable.”

This first gig in the series features two acts with a folk flavour. Simon Robinson’s Jambalaya play a wide repertoire of music, ranging from American mountain songs and ballads, British folk songs, blues and spirituals and even the occasional pop hit.

After touring extensively and releasing 3 albums and an EP to critical acclaim with the band Maia, Simon has since gone on to explore the more traditional roots of acoustic music, performing his repertoire of folk songs round the country solo as well as with Redwood River Band, Moorlanders and Sugarwell Hill. Joined by Alice Phelps on double bass and Will Fletcher on percussion, expect ethereal pure vocals, hypnotic banjo and guitar and a strong audience connection.

Teah Lewis is a Sheffield-based singer-songwriter whose sound channels the soulful folk of Vashti Bunyan and Joni Mitchell. Her songs grab the head and the heart, pairing wistful lyrics with sweet intricate melodies, and mixing strong storytelling with a voice that’s at once powerful and delicate.
