DISTINCTIVE hand-carved walking sticks and garden machinery have been stolen from a business premises near Helmsley.

Police said that the burglary happened at an address on the A1257 north of Helmsley at 10.50pm on August 7.

"There were some hand carved and painted walking sticks taken," police said.

"These are distinctive and each has a small acorn on the back of the depicted creatures’ head.

"They include a barn owl, a labrador with a pheasant in its mouth, a leaping salmon and a labrador with a salmon in its mouth, amongst others.

"We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we are appealing for information about any possible suspects seen in the area at the time."
