A RYEDALE district councillor has labelled the authority’s performance on recycling “disappointing” and called for more ambitious targets.
At a meeting of the policy and resources committee on Thursday, Cllr Lindsay Burr said the council was going down the rankings.
She said: “I’ve always been very proud of this council’s recycling aspirations, but this is very disappointing. We’re going down.
“Don’t you think it’s time that this council set some ambitious targets to get us back to winning awards and getting gold standards?”
Cllr Luke Ives, chairman of the committee, said: “Recycling is very topical at the moment and it’s very important that this council is part of that agenda.
“We should be looking to improve levels of recycling.
“This is something we are going to be looking into.”
