ALMOST 40 teams took part in Malton and Norton Lions annual golf day at Sandburn Hall, raising £3,500 for charity.

Sponsored by local businesses in the twin towns, prizes were awarded to men’s winners Cottingham Park with Chris Fletcher’s team a close second.

Ladies winners were a team led by Jackie Hateley, with players from York and Easingwold, who narrowly defeated the favourites from Malton, led by Carol Simpson, who as a consolation won the longest drive competition.

Lions president Mike Lynch said: “For once the sun shone on our charity golf and we had a super day’s play. I would like to thank Sandburn for their excellent hospitality, our sponsors who provided prizes for the golf, the competitors and all the Lions who helped out on the day.

“Events such as this and Santa’s sleigh at Christmas allow the Lions club to donate much-needed financial support to needy causes and to pay for events catering for the young, elderly and disadvantaged in our local community.”
