POLICE were called by a member of the public concerned about the safety of two men on a bridge in York last night.
North Yorkshire Police said the incident on Millennium Bridge was reported shortly before 8pm.
A spokeswoman for the force added: "Both men were believed to be under the influence of alcohol and one of the men appeared to be on the wrong side of the railings of the bridge."
Officers attended, as did two fire crews.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire fire service said: "Crews liaised with police on scene who believed all persons were off the bridge. Police were speaking with people involved."
A crew from York Rescue Boat were asked to assist the emergency services but were stood down while en route to the scene as the incident had been resolved.
