PICTURES & RESULTS: Boon Hill Show

It was held at Newton-upon-Rawcliffe, near Pickering on Saturday.

Show chairman Bob Gibson said: “It went well. People were happy and it was a nice day out - everybody enjoyed it in between the showers.”

He added that entries were strong and there had, in particular, been a lot of lurcher entries due to there being a memorial show - the Christine Clark Memorial Trophy for best rough lurcher.

“We had double the lurcher entries this year, in tribute,” he said.

The show specialises in horse riding and showjumping, terrier classes and vintage tractors, as well as cookery, horticulture, crafts and ferrets.

People came from far and wide to attend the show.

Mr Gibson said terrier entrants had come from Cheshire, Barnsley and Rotherham, as well as Goole and Middlesbrough.

The show was raising money for two charities this year - Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Candlelighters, a group which supports families facing children’s cancer in Yorkshire.

Mr Gibson added: “I’d like to thank the Woodmansey family for lending us the site, everybody who took part, the judges and stewards for their help - and everybody else who contributed to the show.

“Without them - and everybody who turns up - we wouldn’t be able to have a show.”

The amount raised for the two charities will be announced at a later date when the totals have been finalised.

This year’s Boon Hill Show was held for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Candlelighters.

The chairman Mr Bob Gibson said the show had held a minute’s silence at 1pm to remember valued supporters of the show who sadly passed away in the last year.

The show was a big success despite the weather. The chairman would like to thank the Woodmansey family, the committee and everyone for their kind help and support in the running of the show.
