VISITORS to an historic attraction raided their attics and scoured their cupboards as the Antiques Roadshow arrived at Castle Howard.

Many of Britain’s leading antiques and fine arts specialists were on hand to offer free advice and valuations to the hundreds of people who poured through the gates.

The BBC show, hosted by Fiona Bruce, gives residents the chance to bring along an heirloom or family treasure they may think is worth thousands and have it valued by experts.

She said: “The best part of working on Antiques Roadshow is that we never know who or what is going to turn up on the day. The visitors, the objects they bring, their stories and the location all combine to make a fabulous experience that we aim to capture for the viewers.”

The show is celebrating its 40th anniversary and its first presenter, Bruce Parker, was at Castle Howard to meet visitors.
