FIRE crews have had to cut a seven-year-old child out of handcuffs.

The child called in at Scarborough Fire Station on North Marine Road just before 8pm last night.

The crew released the boy from the handcuffs using a hacksaw.

A fire spokesperson said there was no information on how or why the boy came to be handcuffed.

They added that in cases where the cuffed person is not a child, or the handcuffs are not obviously novelty items, it is normal procedure to contact police before releasing the person.

In a separate incident last night, firefighters from Selby attended a child stuck in a tree.

The crews were called to the scene in Oxen Lane, Selby, at about 9.55pm.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, he was not stuck - just reluctant to get down.

"Assisted with manpower."
