MALTON and Norton Rotary Club has celebrated its 71st anniversary.

On the fourth Monday of January 1946 the first meeting of the Malton and Norton Rotary Club took place at the Talbot Hotel, Malton.

About 30 people joined and it has run successfully since then raising thousands of pounds towards local and international charities, helped steward events in the area, planted more than five tons of daffodils throughout the towns and supported local schools, individuals and organisations. They also send two young people on the Rotary Young Leadership Award every year.

By coincidence, the club met again on the fourth Monday in January 2017 at the Talbot Hotel which was the club's 71st birthday.

Colin Jennings, the current president, said: “We were delighted to return to The Talbot for this special anniversary evening. It was made even better by being able to induct a new member, Angela Joseph."

Angela said: “It is a pleasure to become a member of such a strong community organisation which works so hard in the area. I was attracted to join by the sheer friendliness of the Club. The first night I went I met a group of strangers and left with a new set of friends.”
