THE Archbishop of York will spend the penultimate week of his six-month pilgrimage in Ryedale.

Dr Sentamu will be journeying through the Southern Ryedale Deanery until Sunday, where he will lead an open-air Pentecost Service at Castle Howard. He will also meet with people on the street in Malton Market Place and attend an open evening at Malton School.

During the week the Archbishop will be visiting at a pig farm at Helperthorpe; visiting Bogg Bros Garage who specialise in carburettor conversions; meeting the volunteers at Norton Foodbank and the racehorse chaplaincy team at the stables of Brian Ellison racing.

Pilgrimage Prayers will be offered at 12 local churches and he will visit 10 schools - Rillington, Sherburn, Weaverthorpe, Settrington, Norton, Sand Hutton, Foston, Terrington, Slingsby and Malton. Pilgrimage walks take place every day with everyone welcome to join the Archbishop.

Today (Wednesday), the walk is from Norton College at 2pm to the foodbank. There is a 10.30am walk tomorrow (Thursday) from Sand Hutton Primary School to Claxton, followed by a 1pm walk from Flaxton Church to Thornton-le-Clay and a walk through Howsham at about 3.45pm.

On Friday, the Archbishop will be walking from Terrington Hall School at 10.45am to walk to Welburn via Bulmer where he will join a friendship lunch at the Crown and Cushion pub. At 3pm he will be walking from Slingsby School to Hovingham.

On Saturday, the Archbishop will be in Malton Market Place from 10.15am, followed by a 1.15pm walk departing from the Kingfisher Café in Saville Street, and around the town to Old Malton.

On Sunday, at 10.30am, the Archbishop is also preaching at All Saints Church, Slingsby, followed by a visit to Castle Howard from 2pm where he will lead an outdoor Pentecost service at 3pm on the south lawn.

During his Pilgrimage the Archbishop has walked a sizeable distance each day from the coast, over moor and dale, along highways and byways, through both rural and urban communities and across an area which spans the Humber to the Tees and the A1 to the coast.

The Pilgrimage started at St Mary’s, Whitby, on December 1, 2015, and will finish at York Minster on May 22. His final week on Pilgrimage will be in the York Deanery.

Dr John Sentamu said: "Pentecost is a time to celebrate the Holy Spirit, poured out for all. Throughout my Pilgrimage I have set out to meet people, pray with them, and to encourage them to follow Christ, and bless what God is doing. Pentecost or Whit Sunday as it is commonly known is a wonderful opportunity to pray for everyone to receive new life by the Holy Spirit. Join in sharing God’s love with others this Pentecost."'
