RESIDENTS In Huttons Ambo have raised money to help save lives in the village.

Through funding support, village fundraising and personal donations, villagers have been able to purchase and install a public access defibrillator.

The unit is situated on the outside of the village hall and is on the emergency services database for public use if required.

Funds were raised through a variety of means including a 70 mile sponsored coastal bike ride by David Banks and his son Joseph,12.

Several personal donations were also made in particular from Anita Topp who gave her support in memory of her late husband Malcolm Topp - a long term resident of the village.

Ryedale District Council's Community Fund and The Two Ridings Foundation Grassroots Fund also gave some additional funding support.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service worked with the village to obtain and install the unit and ran a course so that a substantial number of the community could learn some emergency resuscitation skills and how to use the defibrillator.

Resident Liz Ellis, said: “We are a small remote community and felt it was important to have peace of mind for our local community and wider members of the public such as ramblers and the remote farm, river and rail workers who visit our village.”
