AFTER two of her friends died from cancer in their twenties, Sarah Wood committed to taking on an epic challenge.

Sarah, 26, was devastated by the death of her childhood friend Tom Keeping in October and then another close friend Stephen Phelps in February.

She has committed to raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust by running in six famous marathons. She has already completed the New York and Tokyo marathons and is due to take part in the London, Chicago, Boston and Berlin marathons later this year.

Sarah, from Bridlington, said: "I couldn't believe something so vicious took people so young It's not right for anyone to pass away from the disease but it seemed especially wrong at such a young age. They haven't lived their lives at that age."

Both of her friends were treated on Teenage Cancer Trust units

Keen runner Sarah said Tom died in October just one month after his wedding. Tom had been in remission from cancer for three years, but sadly the cancer returned and he faced a terminal diagnosis. He and his wife Danielle brought forward the wedding and married in September.

Sarah’s other close friend, Stephen was 24 when he died from cancer after being treated on a Teenage Cancer Trust unit in Leeds.

Sarah, who works in a holiday park, self funds all her races. So far she has raised £1,200 for the charity with a final aim of £5000.
