TWO students are hosting an evening exploring the experiences of women in the First World War to raise funds for an expedition to Peru.

Rosie Mitchell and Annise Bertucci have organised the event looking at fashion from the Great War with historian Lucy Adlington.

Both girls, who are pupils at Malton School, are planning to take part in development and conservation projects in South America in July 2016 as part of the trip organised by Camps International.

The students have to raise £3,890 to take part in the project and are doing this in a variety of ways, including part-time work, individual challenges and fundraising events.

Rosie, 15, said: "Initially we are going to work in local schools with the children then at the end we are going to spend five days hiking to Machu Picchu.

"I want to go as I feel it will be a fantastic experience to help local children with other languages and help broaden their horizons by understanding other cultures. At the same time I will be broadening my understanding of the world and challenging myself to work with others for others "

Great War Fashion is a funny and moving evening of entertainment as historian Lucy Adlington, explores and recants the experiences of those women, who lived under the shadow of war and who were irrevocably changed by it.

Lucy and actors will demonstrate the genuine fashions they wore.

The evening will take place at Malton School's west wing on Friday, November 27, from 7pm.

There will also be a raffle with a ceramic poppy from the Tower of London as first prize.

The evening includes a light supper. Wine, soft drinks, tea, coffee and beer from Malton's Bad Seed Brewery will also be available.

Tickets are £10 and available from Malton School on 01653 692828 and Horsley Florists, Market Place, Malton.
