VISITORS to this month's Great Yorkshire Show are getting ready for a Royal visit and live TV broadcast.

Show organisers will welcome the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to first day of the 157th annual show on Tuesday, followed by The One Show presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones, who will broadcast the BBC show live from the three-day event on Wednesday. They will be at the show on the second day giving an “as it happens” overview from the day's events.

The presenters will give a behind-the-scenes look at how the show runs and will meet people showing their animals as well as getting stuck in to have a go at some traditional rural crafts and trades.

Series editor of the show Gareth Collett said: “The Great Yorkshire Show has always been an important part of the year, not only for the people of Yorkshire but for the farming community as well so it makes perfect sense for us to seize this opportunity to make our first visit to such a historic and still very relevant event.”

Show director Bill Cowling said that he was thrilled to be welcoming The One Show to the event, which welcomes about 130,000 people over the three days at the showground in Harrogate.

He said: “I’m sure our visitors will relish seeing what lies behind creating a successful TV programme as well as meeting Matt, Alex and the team as they experience the Great Yorkshire Show for themselves.”

Prince of Wales is a patron of the show and has visited before.

During the day the Royal couple will meet exhibitors, staff and show visitors and will take away a hamper of regional produce from Fodder, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s award-winning shop and cafe.

Bill, who will host the Royal guests, said: “Their presence always creates a very special atmosphere as it is plain to see how much they enjoy meeting our visitors and they have a genuine interest in our show and farming generally.”

The show has already attracted almost 13,000 entries from prize winning bulls to international show jumpers and there will also be a range of fashion shows and over 1,200 trade stands.
