HELMSLEY Walled Garden is appealing for volunteers to help for the new season.

A registered charity, the attraction is looking for people to help in the garden and front-of-house as well as anyone with practical skills in painting, joinery and maintaining the glasshouses. Marketing manager Tricia Harris said it was an opportunity for people to be part of the garden team and try volunteering if they had not done it before.

“We rely on the support of volunteers to welcome and assist visitors, help in the shop and put their gardening skills to use in helping to maintain the garden,” she said.

“We are also asking those who have DIY skills to come along and help us restore and maintain areas of the garden too. It is a great way to learn new skills – whether it is learning about the history of the garden to explain to visitors or how to look after vines, fruit trees or our hot border. Whether you can work one morning a week or one day a month, it makes a difference.”
