PARTS of the A64 will close this weekend for resurfacing works.
The road closes at 8pm tonight (Friday) and will stay shut until 6am on Monday, between East Knapton to West Heslerton.
The work includes patching and resurfacing the carriageway, renewing road markings and roads studs, reinstating traffic loops and bridge joints, and renewing damaged road gullies, and is part of a £3.3m road improvement scheme.
Highways Agency project manager Steven Wright said: “Due to a number of factors including poor weather conditions we had to cancel a number of scheduled weekend closures in December and January. Work during the week has been taking place as planned, and two weekend closures have successfully taken place."
He said the weekend closures would let workers carry out deep resurfacing that needs large excavations, and minimise the need for further work.
More weekend and overnight closures will follow on other stretches on the road. Details are at highways.gov.uk
