Throughout November and December last year, all Year 9 food technology students participated in the Great Ryedale Bake Off.

The students were given design and planning time, followed by one hour to make their sponge and a further hour to decorate their cakes.

There were some fantastic entries, which made the competition difficult for the judges, but food technology teacher Donna Wallis was pleased to announce the following winners: First – Rebecca Straw; Second – Rachel Waddington; Third – Sophie Knowles.

Runners up were Daniel Towler, Robert Firby, Molly Hickes, Owen Cowton and Abbie Magson.

Creativity on show

RYEDALE School students’ work will be on display at Nunnington Hall from Saturday, March 28 to Sunday, May 10.

The exhibition will feature stunning pieces of work produced by students from Ryedale School as part of their 2015 GCSE coursework and examination.

The work includes a wide range of styles and demonstrates the use of a range of media, including acrylic paint, pastels, mixed media, watercolours and pencil drawings.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see work from young local artists inspired by a range of topics. The work includes pieces based on themes such as identity and close up. Pupils were required to research their topic and select artists to inspire the final pieces.

School days living up to all expectations

SINCE being at Ryedale School I have noticed that the school really lives up to its motto, not just giving us pupils the help and guidance we need to really do well in school and life, the school also helps us to achieve the best results we can, not just in tests and end-of-year examinations, but in extracurricular activities too, giving each pupil opportunities to show their incredible talent.

Lauryn Lee, a Year 9 pupil, said: “The extracurricular clubs help you find skills you never knew you even had.

“I have been at Ryedale for a year this February and I am developing skills I didn’t even know I had. I have discovered I can sing, act and do well in maths, all because of the staff who guide and help you no matter how challenging something is, the pupils who encourage their peers also play a big part in their friends achievements, and the amazing opportunities that make you develop skills and achieve the very best.”
