RYEDALE residents will be able to see the benefits of CCTV in the area at a screening of previous incidents.

The Palace cinema in Malton will show a series of recordings to demonstrate the benefits of CCTV, from crime prevention to public safety.

Inspector Andy Everitt, who wants to see the CCTV system in Malton and Norton remain, said it was important to show people how effective the cameras were.

“We want people to see the images in an open forum and are grateful to the Palace cinema for giving us this opportunity,” he said.

“Local residents will be surprised at the variety of uses the cameras have and this will provide the chance to help them fully understand the value of the images.”

Insp Everitt said recently CCTV had been used to trace a 90-year-old man with Alzheimers who had gone missing from a care home.

“We are looking to have funding to 2016 due to the savings made by not having CCTV in Pickering, but we need to work together to reshape and take things forward,” added the inspector.

A date for the CCTV screening at the Palace cinema will be agreed soon.
