RYEDALE MP Anne McIntosh is supporting FairFuelUK’s campaign calling on the four major UK supermarket chains to cut fuel prices at the pump to reflect the continuing fall in global oil prices.

She said: “Thirsk, Malton and Filey sees some of the highest fuel prices in the country, and with constituents having to travel further to the pump due to the remote rural nature of North Yorkshire, this is having a crippling effect on many constituents and businesses.

“I am carrying out a sustained campaign against high fuel costs and in favour of a remote rural fuel duty rebate to get the best possible deal for those living in the Thirsk, Malton and Filey constituency.”

The FairFuelUK Campaign welcome a further cut in pump prices from the four major UK supermarket chains. FairFuelUK is calling on the Government yet again to re-visit the issues of oil price manipulation and forecourt pricing and use the Competition and Markets Authority to set up an “OffPump” type enquiry to find out who is actually profiteering from holding back on dropping fuel prices.

Miss McIntosh added: “The differential between petrol and diesel prices, as well as the high cost of fuel prices is damaging rural areas and costing more for motorists and the delivery of public services.

“The extra cost is borne by the most vulnerable members in society who are dependent on their cars to reach doctors and other appointments.”
