THE festive season may have come to an end but there’s still plenty to see and do across Ryedale.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway Quayside Express Fish and Chip Flyer, Sunday: 

Enjoy fish and chips whilst taking in a coastal view on Sunday thanks to a special North Yorkshire Moors Railway service running from Pickering to Whitby. The train will depart from Pickering at 11am, running all the way through to Whitby. The special Quayside Express Fish and Chip Flyer will leave Whitby at about 3pm and guests are advised to order their fish and chip meal when they buy their tickets on Sunday. Boxes of fresh fish and chips will then be ready for guests when the train is due to leave.

Gruffalo’s child trail at Dalby The Great Yorkshire Forest, Saturday & Sunday:

Visitors to Dalby Forest can explore Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning tale with the new Gruffalo Child trails for winter this year. From building a nest to searching for tracks children will be able to complete various Gruffalo themed activities throughout the forest before enjoying lunch in the Dalby Forest cafe.  This version for children will follow a route where information panels can be easily tracked down so that they can learn about the forest cycle as well.

New Year Walk at Wombleton, Sunday:

If you feel as though you have overindulged this Christmas and New Year then why not head out on a leisurely circular walk around Wombleton.
Walkers will leave Wombleton Village Hall on Sunday at 1.30pm and the cost of the walk is £5 and children can go for free. Dogs are also allowed on the walk but must be kept on a lead at all times. Entry includes a jacket potato with a choice of filling followed by a pudding and a tea or coffee. Guests are also welcome to come for the meal even if they are unable to make the walk. Friars Hill Stables horse riding, Saturday & Sunday: 

If your New Year’s resolution is to try something new this year then why not head to Friars Hill Stables in Sinnington for a riding lesson or for a hack out in to the surrounding countryside. There are one or two hour hack options available dependant on abilities and all hacks are escorted by the experienced and qualified staff at the stables. Less experienced riders can go out for a 30 minute hack around the pretty village of Sinnington or can book in for a 30 minute lesson and a 30 minute hack out.
