A GROUP of Malton posties are preparing to bare their legs this winter in aid of a local charity.

The five workmates have agreed to wear shorts to work until the end of January to raise funds for Ryedale Special Families.

Andy Summers, from Norton, came up with the idea, to thank the charity for the support it has given his family.

“We have done previous fundraisers for Ryedale Special Families which is such a fantastic charity,” he added.

“As a family we don’t know what we would do without them.”

His wife, Sarah, said they had been to Edinburgh recently on their first break for a number of years, thanks to the help of the charity who had looked after their eldest son, Jack.

She said: “Last year I organised a big lunch for the charity and previously our younger son Harry took part in a sponsored bike ride. We always try to support them as a family.

“Whenever I phone Ryedale Special Families there is always someone there at the end of the phone and Jack has such a great time with them.”

The postmen taking part in the shorts challenge, which starts on Monday, are Paul Ballantyne, Chris Cooke, Clive Mills, Barry Hood, Michael Allen along with Andy.

Andy added: “All we ask is that people donate £1 per week to help us on our way. This will mean a donation of £10 per sponsor unless they feel more generous, but any amount will help us in our efforts.”

He added: “Please supports us on this ‘chilling’ experience to help a brilliant local charity.”

Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/maltonposties2012, or text to 70070 quoting MALT99 £5 to donate £5.
