PICKERING’S Becky Mills brings her melodious voice and acoustic guitar to the Milton Rooms Studio in Malton on Friday, October 14.

Becky’s self-penned first album won praise from Mike Harding for her singing from the soul. “I don’t remember when I was so amazed by a singer-songwriter’s work,” said Mike.

Becky cut her teeth in the music world when she joined her dad’s rock band and visited folk clubs with him. She started to perform in pubs around the area and played support for Fairport Convention.

As her reputation grew she joined the all-girl, award-winning band Waking the Witch, playing at many leading music festivals. But since becoming a mother she has followed a solo career.

“I have been massively influenced by Fairport Convention, Joni Mitchell, Pentangle, Steeleye Span and all sorts,” said Becky.

When she’s not digging music, Becky is likely to be digging soil, as she has a passion for gardening work.

“Gardening is my other music, I am obsessed with it. I can’t walk past a garden without worrying about the weeds.” Appropriate then that her debut album is called Dandelions.

Tickets for the show, priced £8, are available from the Malton box office or by telephone 01653 696240 or at the door on the night, subject to availability.
