AWARD-winning jazz singer Liane Carroll comes to Helmsley Arts Centre next month.

Liane is joined by singer songwriters Sophie Bancroft and Sara Colman, both established names in their own right.

Performing only a handful of gigs across the UK, these singers, collectively Colman, Carroll and Bancroft Unleashed, will bring an evening of soaring vocals and spellbinding music to the theatre.

Award-winning singer-pianist Liane is one of the UK's greatest musical treasures, whose latest CD Seaside won the Best New CD in this year's British Jazz Awards.

A soulful, emotive singer, she is capable of reducing listeners to tears with her heart-breaking ability to inhabit a lyric or of making an audience jump for joy with her breath-taking vocal virtuosity.

A classically-trained pianist since she was three, she possesses a true musicality that lifts her interpretations into the realms of art in their own right and to hear her sing even the best known standard or the most hackneyed pop song is to hear that song afresh.

Writing music has always been central to Sara Colman. Across all three of her albums, original music has been a consistent theme. During 2010-11 while studying for an MA in Songwriting, Sara collaborated with her brothers Mat and Andrew on Sem Amor and Some Other Wonder for the eponymous Colman Brothers album. Sara has also completed several commissions for larger vocal groups: Seven Songs for Seven Colours for Black Voices, as well as Celebrate and Amen for choral projects presented at Lichfield Cathedral and Birmingham Town Hall.

Born into one of Britain’s top jazz families, with brothers Tom and Phil Bancroft, Sophie's early part vocal career saw her performing in Britain and Europe at major jazz festivals and clubs, and on regular broadcasts for BBC Radio 2 and Radio Scotland. During her time as Britain’s first Jazz Education Development Officer, she honed her skills as a songwriter and music educator. Since 1993, Sophie has had a highly-successful career as a singer-songwriter performing, broadcasting and recording her own compositions with a unique blend of jazz and folk influences.

All three singers teach regularly and Liane, Sara and Sophie will be leading a workshop for Helmsley Community Choir on the afternoon of the performance.

Tickets for the concert, which takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 16, are available from the box office on 01439 771700 or online at helmsleyarts.co.uk
