A WEEKEND of top quality arts and culture is promised at Helmsley Arts Centre.

Starting on Thursday, November 19, the centre hosts a live-streamed screening of the highly-anticipated hit Broadway production Of Mice and Men, filmed on stage in New York by National Theatre Live.

Starring Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee James Franco along with Tony Award nominee Chris O’Dowd, this landmark revival of Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck's play, offers both a striking portrait of the American spirit and a heartbreaking testament to the bonds of friendship.

Dominic Goodwin presents the last of his three short stories with Tales at Tiffin at 11.30am on Friday, November 20, as a fundraiser for the arts centre.

World class classical pianist Martin Roscoe brings his virtuoso skill to the arts centre on Saturday, November 21, at 7.30pm.

With an extraordinary career spanning over four decades, Martin Roscoe is one of the UK’s best-loved pianists.

Renowned for his versatility, he is equally at home in concerto, recital and chamber performances.

One of his most important music collaborations in recent years is the Cropper Welsh Roscoe Trio, which has performed across the UK, most notably at the Wigmore Hall.

Martin is Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School of Music, where he has just been awarded his Fellowship, and he recently recorded the complete Beethoven piano sonatas for the Deux-Elles label to unanimous critical acclaim, two of which form part of this programme: Sonatas in C minor Op. 13 and No. 31 in A-major, Op 110. He will also play Impromptus by Schubert, Faure and Chopin and Beethoven’s Three Bagatelles.

Artists and makers at all levels of experience are invited to come and take part in the festive Baubles, Buttons and Beads Workshop on either the morning or afternoon of Sunday, November 22, when ceramicist Janet Hayton will show you how to create seasonal and craft wares. Come and learn how to make the pure white porcelain decorations she makes professionally.

Crafters can also use this special clay to fashion unique brooches, beads and buttons, incorporating their own stamps and cutters or choose from Janet's collection. Clay and kiln firing is included.
