VOTE on your favourite films from the past 60 years for the chance to see everyone from James Bond to Billy Elliott, Cruella de Vil to Bridget Jones, the Pink Panther to Buzz Lightyear and more, back on the big screen.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) is 60 this year and is inviting the public to select their pick of the flicks from its What We Watched film list featuring 60 titles released during the company’s history from 1955 to the present.

From a shortlist of 10 films per decade, the six top choices will be screened between August 28 and October 2.

From 1955 to 1964 cinema hits to choose from include Goldfinger with Sean Connery, Some Like It Hot starring Marilyn Monroe, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians and 12 Angry Men.

The next 10 years saw Dustin Hoffman’s breakthrough film role in The Graduate, Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry, the original Planet of the Apes, Carry On Screaming and The Jungle Book to name a few.

Sci-fi is the popular option between 1975 and 1984 with Star Trek, Alien and E.T. The period also saw Sylvester Stallone’s first outing as boxer Rocky and Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

Film choices for 1985 to 1994 could put Kevin Costner, Bruce Willis and Michael Keaton in the frame. There’s competition from Mia Farrow in Hannah and Her Sisters and cult classics Little Shop of Horrors and Withnail and I.

For 1995 to 2004, could it be the red pill or the blue pill in The Matrix, to infinity and beyond in Toy Story or back to the Qing Dynasty in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

The Hunger Games is up against Helen Mirren’s portrayal of The Queen, the Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men, Pan’s Labyrinth and Christopher Nolan’s Inception in the final decade.

Votes can be made online at surveymonkey.com/r/whatwewatched, alternatively paper forms are available from the theatre.

The films will be shown at 5pm on August 28 (1955-64), September 4 (1965-74), September 11 (1975-84), September 18 (1985-94), September 25 (1995-2004) and October 2 (2005-15).

Cinema tickets, priced at £7, are available from the box office on 01723 370541 and online at sjt.uk.com. All voters will receive a two-for-one ticket offer for one of the film screenings.
