THE music of Pink Floyd comes to Whitby Pavilion on Saturday.

Time Is Money, a name inspired by two of the tracks from Dark Side of the Moon, one of the biggest-ever selling albums, comprises of eight musicians, a sound engineer and a lighting technician from Lincolnshire.

They have rehearsed with the same attention to detail that Pink Floyd themselves were renowned for.

Drummer Anth Hindmarch has been a fan ever since he first saw Floyd perform in 1967 when the band was fronted by the enigmatic Syd Barrett.

“Ever since then I have been, in turn, fascinated and uplifted by their music,” he said.

“I’ve seen Floyd live some 20 times and in 1977 was lucky enough to be working at the Olympia in London to see Floyd rehearse their Animals tour.”

For lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist George Clifton it all started when he was revising for exams while listening to The Wall.

He said: “The music took me places that no other did then or has done since.

“My dream has now been realised to get the chance to perform this magical music.”

The evening promises to be a feast of Pink Floyd classics with generous helpings of Dark Side of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and more.

For lead guitarist Martin Nicholls, this is the culmination of nearly 25 years learning to play guitar.

“I first heard The Wall when I was about 17 and immediately fell in love with the guitar solo on Comfortably Numb,” he said.

“The following year, the first thing I squandered my valuable university grant money on was a cheap guitar.

“I learned my first few chords and then immediately concentrated on lead playing because all I was interested in was playing that incredible solo.

“Since then I have become a huge admirer of David Gilmour’s playing and tone and 25 years later am still trying to perfect that unbelievable sound.”
