THE 2013 BBC Slam Champion Sophia Walker appears at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre next week with her debut solo show, Around The World In Eight Mistakes.

It scooped the title for Best Spoken Word Show at the 2013 Edinburgh Free Fringe and was last year voted the Best UK Spoken Word Show.

Illegal immigration, illegal emigration, ridiculous amounts of deportation, an accidental stint in a war zone and moving for love. Twice.

Sophia’s earliest memory is that of sitting on her father’s shoulders as the Berlin Wall was being torn down and leapfrogging around the world to the US, Uganda and other places along the way.

After the interval Sophia will also perform a spoken word set.

Winner of the 2012 London Poetry Olympics, Edinburgh International Book Festival Slam, a former Scottish Slam Champion and the UK representative for the World Queer Slam, Sophia has performed everywhere from The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, to the European Parliament.

Around The World In Eight Mistakes is directed by Matt Panesh, who will also perform at the venue on April 14 with his award-winning 2013 Edinburgh Fringe show 300 to 1, which was developed and rehearsed at the Scarborough theatre.

Sophia Walker can be seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre on Saturday, March 14, at 7.45pm.

Tickets, priced from £10 to £15, are available from the box office on 01723 370541 and online at sjt.uk.com
