NEWCHURCH Male Voice Choir makes its first visit to our region on Friday, May 30tto join forces with Malton District Male Voice Choir in a spring musical treat “Two’s Company”.

The concert, featuring more than 50 male voices, is at 7.30 pm in Malton School’s East Wing Studio on Middlecave Road.

Newchurch Male Voice Choir travels throughout Cornwall and Wales and has sung in cathedrals and with other choirs as well as winning trophies at home in the Isle of Wight Music Festival.

Spokesman Harry Long said: "This is our first journey north and it will be a wonderful opportunity to see the beautiful scenery and historic sites of Yorkshire. The choir is looking forward immensely to our trip. We know we will fit in well with the Malton choir and make a fine sound in concert”.

Malton choir secretary David Ackroyd added: "Hosting such a vibrant and busy choir as Newchurch is a privilege and it will be further valuable experience for us, both from a musical and organisational point of view”.

The Malton choir has just completed a ‘first’ of its own when it joined six other choirs from Ryedale and East Yorkshire to raise a record £2,653 pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care at a National Association of Choirs concert in Scarborough.

More that two hundred singers were involved in that concert and the Malton choir, the youngest among them and founded only in 2007, earned praise from audience and participants alike for its spirited and competent performance.

At the upcoming joint concert both Newchurch and Malton will sing individually and in solo with more than 20 numbers, among them “Morte Criste” and “With a Voice of Singing”. The choirs will also sing together in numbers being arranged by the choirs’ MDs – Malton’s Vivien Wilcock and Newchurch’ Roy Bevan.

Concert tickets cost £7 and are available from Hoppers in Malton Market Place, 01653 692014, from choir members or on the door.
