SCARBOROUGH Open Air Theatre will step back in time next summer for a concert featuring seven of the most popular acts of the 1980s and early 1990s.

Legends of Pop, starring Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Rick Astley, Sonia, Hazell Dean, Brother Beyond’s Nathan Moore and Undercover, will transport the audience back in time to the dizzy heights of the electric pop era.

Audiences should get ready to party along to smash hits like Nothing Can Divide Us, Love In The First Degree, Never Gonna Give You Up and Better The Devil You Know, as well as new material from the artists’ latest albums.

Councillor David Chance, Scarborough Borough Council’s cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “Legends of Pop will be the kind of retro concert that has enjoyed huge popularity throughout the country in recent years as many fans look to relive some of the best pop hits of their youth.

“With the talented line-up we’re bringing to the open-air theatre, audiences should expect a fantastic evening’s entertainment and a chance to create some great new memories too.”

Janet Deacon, Welcome to Yorkshire area director, said: “Once again, the theatre is living up to its strength of bringing a wide variety of acts to Scarborough.

“We know that these are names that people will travel to the town to see from much further afield, which will benefit our many accommodation providers and other local businesses. Don’t forget that concert tickets make excellent presents for fans of live music or for those loved ones you might otherwise struggle to buy for.”

Other acts already announced for the theatre in 2014 are Status Quo on July 12 and Last Night of the Proms on June 28, featuring Aled Jones and Military Wives Choirs, with accompaniment from the National Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets for Legends of Pop are priced £35 and are on sale at The Sands office, in Scarborough’s North Bay, online at www.scarboroughspa.co.uk by phoning 01723 821888.

They are also available from the tourist information centres in Filey, Scarborough and Whitby and the tourism bureau. A £2 booking fee per ticket sold will apply.
