ORGANISERS of a three-day arts festival in Scarborough are looking for volunteers.

Coastival 2014 will feature 100 activities – 80 of them free – from February 14 to 16.

One of the highlights will be Orpheus the Mariner, a huge performance on February 14 and 15, featuring giant puppets and a record attempt for the largest puppet in the world.

The event will also feature music, theatre, arts, dance and entertainment for children, all based around the theme of movement.

Headline music act will be British acid jazz band the Brand New Heavies, supported by Nubiyan Twist, who will appear at the Spa Grand Hall, from 8pm, on February 14.

Helen Berry, co-ordinator for Coastival volunteers, said: “We need a team of committed, enthusiastic, hard-working and fun-loving people to help us make this fantastic event a success.

“Coastival volunteers will be involved in the front of house elements of the festival, including stewarding, manning the information desk, welcoming visitors, checking tickets, box office, sales and generally making visitors feel welcome.

“It is a fantastic event to be involved in and for anyone interested in developing a career in event management or arts administration it is an excellent opportunity to gain work experience.

“If you would like to be part of the team delivering this major festival, see some fantastic events, meet new people, have fun, gain useful work experience and have a good time while working hard, we would love to hear from you.”
