HOT on the success of The Kitchen Sink, the new uproarious comedy by one of Britain’s best young writers comes to Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre in October.

Jumpers For Goalposts is an hilarious and heart-warming story about football, friendship and finding your way.

Written by Tom Wells, winner of the George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright 2012, the play shows from October 10-12.

Luke wants Danny but Danny’s got a secret. Joe’s happy in goal but Geoff wants a headline gig. Viv just wants to beat the lesbians to the league title. It’s game on.

James Grieve’s production, for Paines Plough, Watford Palace and Hull Truck, has received critical acclaim following the premiere in Watford.

“Tom Wells is one of the finest new voices in British playwriting,”

said James. “His plays are joyous, life-affirming, laugh-out-loud experiences.

“Jumpers For Goalposts is typical Tom; a play about underdogs and seemingly insurmountable challenges and friendship so strong it’s unbreakable.

“It’s about winning, even when you lose, and about falling in love so hard it hurts.

“This is an important play, a moving play, and the funniest play I’ve ever directed.

“Whether you like football or hate it, Tom’s team of plucky underdogs will have you rolling in the aisles and wiping a tear from your eye.”

The show is at 7.45pm, with a matinee on Saturday, October 12 at 2.45pm.
