A RYEDALE-based drink company has launched a new small-batch gin flavoured with plants from local hedgerows.
Hedgerow Gin, released to coincide with the Malton Food Lovers Festival, is the new project by Sloemotion, at Barton-le-Willows.
The 42 per cent gin features local botanicals, including rosehips, crab apples, sloe stones, elderflower, nettle leaf and meadow hay, alongside the typical London gin ingredients.
Joff Curtoys, managing director of Sloemotion, said: “We’re really excited to be launching our hedgerow gin. It’s been a painstaking process of development and refinement over the last two years.”
As well as foraging from local hedges, the team also get the right ‘floral mix’ by cutting hay from their own “micro-meadow” and from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Wharram Quarry reserve.
