Malton Camera Club join forces with Norton Wildlife Watch to document spring arriving at their base at Howsham Mill.

There was a good turn out of members from both clubs in what became a cold and wet Sunday afternoon.

The brief for the day was to document anything that was beginning to appear at the mill from plant life to creatures and insects.

Since Norton Wildlife Watch moved its base to Howsham Mill, the young people have had the opportunity to study nature as it appears in its natural habitat.

There was plenty of equipment brought along for the young people to try their hand at photography.

One of the girls was very keen to try out a digital single-lens reflex camera, instead of the usual camera phones teenagers use these days. The verdict was that she would like to own one herself at some stage.

When the hail and wind came to dampen our spirits, one of the members encouraged the young people to bring subjects indoors to be photographed in a light tent.

In the light tent we gathered some good images and everyone agreed that the combining of the two clubs for the shoot had been a big success and some worthwhile images had been collected for Norton Wildlife Watch to document their progress at the mill.

Other events between the two clubs will be organised throughout the year to maintain the enthusiasm that the young members had in taking photographs of the nature and world around them.
