THIS month’s marvellous spread of photographs is supplied by members of Kirkbymoorside and District Camera Club.

Ranging from a footpath ploughed by tramping feet through thick snow, to a low winter sun burnishing the bracken to a warm glow up on the North York Moors, all show the North Yorkshire countryside at its winter best.

If you’d like to find out how to take pictures like this, the club always welcomes new members – both beginners and intermediate-level photographers alike.

It meets at 7.30pm on the first and third Thursdays of each month, in the Royal British Legion Club, Shaw Drive, Kirkbymoorside. To find out more about the club, visit www.kirkbymoorside-camera-club.co.uk

Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy…

Barrie Tuck – Shed in snow
A typical winter scene in the countryside around Middleton, near Pickering. With snow laying in the paddock and on the wooden sheds it was framed by an old field fence.

The picture looks better in black and white because of the lack of any other significant colours.

Harry Kingman – By the lake
Taken in the Yorkshire Arboretum in the middle of January last year.

The arboretum is always beautiful, no matter what time of year, but when you see it in bright sunshine with a fresh covering of snow, it is exquisite.

Richard Harrison – Garden black birds in Silver Birch
Black birds sunning themselves on a frosty winter morning with dreams of the warmth of springtime.

Mike Ward – Surprise View
This view is the Surprise View you see when turning the corner going out of Gillamoor towards Farndale. On this particular day the warm late afternoon sun made the bracken glow and the shadows on the snow had a contrasting hint of purple.

Julie Cowdie – Winter in the Howardian Hills
When snow arrives in the Howardian Hills, what is often the motorists nightmare can also be the photographer’s dream. The filigree of snow clinging to the trees and the subdued colours create pattern and atmosphere.

John Nicoll – Nearly home
I enjoyed being here in the cold and was looking forward to coffee or something stronger in a few minutes time. I was drawn to the picture by the reflected cold light defining the footpath.

Gazette & Herald:

Colleen Nicoll – Frosty Gate
I liked the way the sun shone through the snowy gate. Taken in West Lund Lane, Kirkbymoorside.

Gazette & Herald:
David Ireland – Farmhouse from Cropton
This farmhouse, just off the road from Cropton to Wrelton, looks quite picturesque against the wintery moorland back ground.
