FUEL distributor Rix Petroleum is on the hunt for Yorkshire and Humber’s top young farmer.

The East Yorkshire company is encouraging young farmers to make a short video demonstrating how they are making a difference to their place of work.

The person who submits the best video will win £500 and earn the title of Rix Young Farmer of the Year Yorkshire and Humber.

The competition will be launched at Driffield Agricultural Show today (Wednesday).

Entrants should make and submit a video of no longer than 60 seconds and can be about anything from environmental issues and wildlife conservation to farm diversification projects or improving the financial efficiency of the business.

They will be hosted on Rix Petroleum’s Facebook page and the public will vote for the top three, which will go forward to an expert panel of judges who will make the final decision.

James Brook, marketing manager at Rix Petroleum, said: “Rix has been serving the farming community in East Yorkshire for many generations and we have always been amazed by the enthusiasm and entrepreneurship that each new generation brings. We want to celebrate those achievements and that’s why we have launched our Young Farmer of the Year.

“We are not looking for high-quality produced videos, using a camera phone is fine, it is how you answer the question that will count.

“Farming is one the most diverse industries to work in, and one of the most vital. We’ll let you decide what is important to you and your farm and how you want to tell us.”

Video submission period closes at 11.59pm on August 31. Voting via Rix Petroleum’s Facebook site will start at 00.01am on September 4 and will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, September 20, with the winner announced shortly afterwards.

The winner will receive £500 with second place receiving £250 and third, £100.

Videos must be under 60 seconds and be sent to dan@rix.co.uk. For full terms and conditions, visit rix.co.uk.
