CHARLOTTE Dring did not have any great expectations and certainly did not dream of winning when she took her young horse to experience her first ever competition.

Charlotte, a member of North Ryedale Riding Club, chose to contest the opening event of the summer season, a well-attended dressage show at Hamley Hagg.

A foot-perfect performance by the Rosedale based rider and her six-year-old skewbald mare, Wilderswood Lilyflower (Lily), clinched a deserving victory in the Intro B.

Delighted with the way her youngster had performed, Charlotte went forward to contest the Prelim 12 on board her veteran New Forest pony, 22-year-old Fayre Thorne Pikador (Piko) and the effervescent piebald cob, Mac, which is usually ridden by her mother, Sam Dring. Charlotte remained on top form and took first and second places respectively with her two rides.

Charlotte said: “I was really pleased with all of them, especially Lily as it was her first competition and she won.

“I’ve been riding Mac a lot more of late because my mum has a broken leg but I’ve worked hard with all three over winter and I guess it’s paid off.”

A well-executed test in the Novice 27 resulted in victory for Ellie Wilson and Limbo Dancer. The dressage competitions are being run as an accumulator throughout the summer but they are restricted to club members only.
