THE British Riding Club’s area horse trials qualifier at Breckenbrough, near Thirsk, last Sunday saw huge entries from all over Yorkshire.

Several of our local clubs have secured their places for the national championships, which takes place at the beginning of August in Gloucestershire.

The 80 senior sections saw Scarborough, York and Malton take some of the top six places in their arenas with Katie Brickman, for Malton, gaining a first to qualify, the teams finished third, fourth and sixth respectively.

The junior 90 section saw North Ryedale cook up a storm to finish with a first, second, third and fourth to win that section outright, giving Lois Teal, Kiera Colgan, Ella Turnbull and Issabella Armitage a crack at the championship.

The senior 90 saw Malton and Selby finish third and fourth respectively. The Malton team had Katie Stephens Grandy and her mount Mr Music finish third in their arena and Kathy Boothman with Faeries Footsteps sixth in their arena.

The 100+ section was a nail-biting finish with all competitors scoring very closely. Jess Johnson on Mr Boyze and Kathy Boothman on Buzz Lite Year for Malton finished third and fourth respectively overall with Jess receiving an invitation for the championships.

The 100 sections saw Scarborough club member, Lucy Woodhead riding Maisy finished a very creditable third in her arena with Charlotte Lawson for North Ryedale finishing fifth in that same arena, while Jess Johnson on Mr Boyze for Malton third in the other arena.

The results were: Senior 80 – 1 Ackworth, 2 Holme Valley, 3 York & District, 4 Scarborough, 5 Brimham, 6 Malton.

Junior 90 – 1 North Ryedale, 2 Northallerton.

Senior 90 – 1 Harewood, 2 Ackworth, 3 Malton. 4 Selby, 5 Darrowby, 6 Northallerton.

Senior 100 teams – 1 Harewood, 2 Scarborough, 3 Brimham, 4 Northallerton, 5 Ackworth, 6 Calderdale.

Senior 100+ - 1 Harewood, 2 Selby.
