MANOR Farm, Thornthorpe’s first showjumping competition of the spring proved to be very popular.

The day began with a good win for Ellen Winter and Freebe in a hotly-contested junior 70cm class, taking the class by a good four seconds.

In the senior equivalent class local rider Tammy Dickinson took the spoils on her coloured mare Sky. In the following 75cm classes, the junior winner was local racehorse trainer’s daughter Samantha Brown and Tommy, who was the sole double clear in the class and Emma Tibbett and Philly, likewise were also the only double clear in the senior section.

Although there were large entries, the competitors were finding the course quite testing in the 85cm class and the only clear in the junior section was Bobby Denney and Flying Colours, the seniors also found the course tricky with only five going forward to the jump off where the speedy Alice Smith and Daisy took the class by a good four seconds.

In the senior 90cm the competition produced a strong, fast jump off, the victor being the consistent Phoenix Bay and Claire Townley. The end of the day saw local rider Sophie Shepherdson take the 95cm class with her careful grey horse Rivervale Park Pippin. The next dressage is on April 4.

Senior 85cm – 1st Alice Smith and Daisy, 2nd Hannah Philipson and Silver Thomas, 3rd Lily Spencer and Zepher, 4th Fiona Wainwright and Ross, 5th Jack Jordan and The Manager.
