THE championship for the summer series dressage for York and District Riding Club took place last weekend at the club field in Wigginton.

The championshipIt was open to those who had gained more than 10 points for placings at previous dressage competitions over the summer months, and was run alongside the usual restricted competition.

The intro class was again the highest entry of the day and the biggest single class. Hannah Hamilton on Story made their return to competition and were placed a very creditable third on their first outing since returning to fitness. The cutest pairing and test of the day had to go to Sophie Gittus aged just seven, riding her pony Dynamite, who was competing for the very first time and gained a respectable 61.30 per cent in her test. Sue Westwood riding her son’s hunter Bouncer headed the class with 71.08 per cent and gave a foot-perfect performance.

The Intro Championship class had only three combinations qualified, but it was still hotly contested. Laura Barker on Mightavago prevailed and was placed first to beat Barbara Boston on Russian Gold by three percent.

The Prelim restricted class saw Emma Mennell win with a score of 69.77 per cent to Sue Westwood who had to settle for second.

The restricted prelim championship was won by Laura Barker riding Mightavago with a five per cent lead from Lorna Paterson on Bonny Lad, who was reserve champion.

Prelim 12 saw Kathryn Gittus and Rigsby taking top spot with 67.80 per cent but Laura Brown on Jack were a very close second on 67 per cent, Laura was also third riding her other horse Green Manalishi.

The Prelim Championship class was won by Katy Clegg from Wigginton, riding Caereini Conference Lad with a very narrow margin which went to the collectives to beat the second placed junior rider and reserve champion Holly Shepherdson riding her veteran pony, Longslade Dancing Firebird.

It was to be a double celebration for Katy Clegg, having already won the prelim championship with Caereini Conference Lad, she then rode a superb test on her other horse, Quorostan, to beat Debbie Lister on Harvey, to snatch the novice championship trophy too.

Sally Beeden along with Katy, enjoyed a fruitful day to win the novice 24 restricted and to trot away with the elementary championship on Double Spey.

The committee of York and District riding club would like to thank all volunteers and judges for their help in running these competitions over the summer months.
