THE new Equi-med Ag boots, recently on the market, are proving to be a hit with horse owners in this wet weather where some horses are prone to mud fever or have a cut which is difficult to heal because of excess moisture.

The boots are designed to be used in the stable and come in the forms of stable boots, heel boots, cannon wraps, knee boots, hock boots and fetlock boots.

One lady, whose horse had suffered terrible mud fever and cracks since she got him four years ago, had tried every cream and treatment going.

She was in despair until she tried the “stable boot” and for the first time in four years he has not shown any signs of mud fever or cracks and she is able to turn him out in the field regularly.

The company says: “Our products incorporate a layer of 100 per cent activated carbon fabric with silver, or as we call it ‘the magic cloth’”.

This fabric has very effective antibacterial properties, as the surface of the carbon has a permanent electrostatic charge, which attracts bacteria from a wound or from the horse’s skin into the carbon structure where they are retained and killed by silver.

Antimicrobial testing carried out by Lincoln University has scientifically proven the fabric to be very effective at capturing and killing bacteria associated with veterinary wounds (pseudomonas aeroginosa) and skin diseases such as mud fever (detmatophilus congolensis).

Removal of bacteria from the horse’s skin reduces the risk of bacterial skin disease such as mud fever or cracked heels. Removal of bacteria from a wound promotes a healthy wound environment which can accelerate wound healing and reduce the risk of granulation tissue.

This fabric has also been shown to reduce swelling.
