Renowned North Yorkshire sculptor Emma Stothard has unveiled a spectacular willow horse sculpture that will have pride of place in the parade ring at Thirsk Racecourse for the 2014 season, which starts on Saturday.
The North Yorkshire sculptor, whose clients include The Prince of Wales, has loaned the willow horse sculpture to Thirsk to celebrate the current Chinese Year of the Horse. Emma’s work has been shown across the world with exhibits in Japan and Singapore as well as closer to home at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the National Trust.
The sculpture was delivered to the racecourse last week.
James said: “We are thrilled to have Emma’s amazing willow horse on display at Thirsk Racecourse this season, which is a fitting way to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse. Emma’s work has been exhibited far and wide in the UK and overseas and so we are very honoured that she should agree to provide a piece for us to exhibit here at Thirsk Races.”
The sculpture will not be the only new addition to Thirsk this year. The racecourse has undergone an extensive programme of refurbishment over the past six months, investing in the premier enclosure facilities with the new Thomas Lord Dine and View Restaurant, with trackside view, as well as a new seafood bar, located between the parade ring and the track.
