Choirs are thriving in Ryedale, with groups across the district.

Alison Davis leads and directs three adult choirs in Malton and Pickering, a more relaxed singing group in Norton and is to launch new daytime choirs in the area,

The daytime choirs are to take place from Wednesday September 14.

They will be held on Wednesdays from 11am to 12pm at Thornton-le-Dale Village Hall; on Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at Norton Trinity Methodist Church and on Thursdays from 10.30am to 11.30am at Westborough Methodist Church in Scarborough.

The same repertoire will be taught at each venue so that the groups can either perform individually or as one larger choir.

Genres will range from musical theatre to folk and pop, along with music from around the world.

For those interested in joining a more established choir, Alison runs two female choirs and one mixed-voice choir.

Female voices choir Harmonia turns 15 in November and meets every Thursday evening at Norton Trinity Methodist Church. Upcoming concerts will be held at Lastingham Church on September 23, Slingsby Church on October 14 and a Christmas concert for North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre at St. Michael's Church on December 9.

Mixed voices choir Ryedale Voices was formed by Alison in 2018. It now has 40 members and rehearses on Tuesday evenings at Norton Primary School.

Ryedale Voices is preparing for a concert on October 21 with Sound Fellows from York at Norton Trinity Methodist Church and proceeds will go towards church renovations.

Alison's other female choir is The Ryelarks, which rehearse at Pickering Junior School on Monday evenings.

The choir is joining with Harrogate Male Voice Choir for a Sunday afternoon concert on 15th October.

Last year Alison started a more informal singing group called Just Sing specifically aimed at people who enjoy singing, but don't want to perform.

Just Sing meet at Norton Primary School on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm.
