YORK City Knights' supporters' club are urging fans to boycott bars and food outlets at Odsal on Sunday in protest at what they say are "extortionate" admission prices.

Several York supporters have taken to social media to slam the pricing policy used by host club Bradford Bulls, with a good number saying they cannot afford to go to the game and others calling for a total boycott.

The Knights' Supporters Society nevertheless want to get behind James Ford's team in what could be a grudge match on the back of last year's League One title rivalry.

Gary Hall, the chairman of KSS, said: "I agree that Bradford are charging extortionate prices and £10 for children is ridiculous. How do they expect to grow interest in the sport?

"However I would encourage all Knights fans not to boycott the game but to travel to Odsal in numbers to support the team and hopefully hit them where it hurts most by taking two points.

"I would suggest that Knights fans boycott the bars and food outlets as a protest."

The Knights took about 350 to 450 fans to their previous away game this term, at Dewsbury Rams. Hall added: "That is a lot of beer and burgers they are missing out on."

Adult tickets for the standing terraces at Odsal on Sunday cost £23 plus a 58p booking fee if bought online.

Concessions are £18 plus 48p, and tickets for juniors aged five to 16 cost £10 plus 25p. All under-5s go free.

For seats in the Provident Stand, adults are charged £28 plus a 70p booking fee, with concessions priced at £23 plus 58p, and junior tickets at £15 plus 38p.

Adult admission rises to £25 for the terrace and £30 for the stand if paid through the turnstiles on the day.

There are, however, discounts available for family tickets at Odsal, while a spokesman for the Bulls said they also offered "flexi-passes" which cost £118.98 and equate to six match-day tickets. These can be used to get six people into one game, taking the average price down to £19.83 per person.

The Bulls markedly increased their season ticket prices this year, with early-bird adult season tickets for the terrace going up from £149 to £225 and those for seats in the stand rising from £199 to £249.

One York supporter, Jon Telfer, wrote: "Just priced up on their website for me, the kids, the missus and my dad. An eye-watering 132 quid if I include parking. Whereas I get change from 50 quid at the Knights."

He added: "I really hope there will be plenty of Knights fans there to cheer the lads on. If I win the Lottery on Saturday, I'll see you there!"

Martin Usher wrote: "The ticket price is the reason we're not going."

Julie Seymour wrote: "Our party of eight won't be going unfortunately as it's just too expensive."

Another fan, Simon Hall, also complained on social media that Bradford use an 0844 number "which will cost me 7p a minute plus a 15p connection fee" when he wanted to speak to their commercial department about ordering "a load of tickets" for the Championship clash.

The Knights, by contrast, charge £17 for Main Stand seating at home games at Bootham Crescent, or £12 for concessions, while admission for all under-16s is free.
