DEFENDING Tyke Petroleum York Men's Tennis League champions David Lloyd York returned to the top of division one with a 60-48 home win over York 1.

The table-toppers had a sparkling 27 games from number one pair Dale Fawcett and Jan Dyl largely to thank, while Pete Hall and Ryan Carrick top scored for the visitors with a solid 20.

Poppleton 1 enjoyed a resounding 66-42 win at bottom club Sherburn despite a 23-game haul from the hosts' first pair of Phil Bremner and Stephen Pearce. A splendid 29 from James Silson and Andre Earnshaw was the highlight for the visitors.

Copmanthorpe 1 and Racquets 1 drew 54-54.

Just a single point separates Wigginton 2 from Fulford 1 at the top of division two after both had convincing wins at the weekend.

The centrepiece of Wiggy's win at Rowntree Park 1 was a consistent 27 from top pair Matt Waudby and Andy Withers, who recorded nine games in each of their three rubbers.

Fulford won 65-43 at Wetherby 1. All three visiting pairs scored well, with top pair Richard Parker and Govind Baker leading the way with an excellent 29.

Wilberfoss 1 took advantage of York 2's week off to close the gap at the top of division three to 1.5 points, recording a spectacular 69-39 home win over David Lloyd Harrogate 2. All three home pairs of Matt Poole/Kieran Screeton, Tim Hunt/Chris Bowles and Charlie Dodds/Alex Gurnell scored north of 20 games.

Bubwith 1 beat Alne & Tollerton 78-30 in a battle of the bottom two. Bubwith’s pairs of Jon Longthorp/Doug Smith, Shaun Pinchbeck/Alastair Southwarth and Guy Littlejohn/Liam Moore returned 29, 27 and 22 respectively.

Sutton-upon-Derwent 1 had a fine 64-44 win at Racquets 2 and are only 4.5 points off second spot with a game in hand.

Wigginton 3 - who have a commanding lead in division four - beat third-placed Wetherby 60-48 at home. Scott Farquhar and Kev Fairclough led the way for the hosts with an impressive 25, while a 19-game haul from Marc Bickers and Paul Godden was the highlight for Wetherby.

Starbeck 2 drew 54-54 at Strensall 1 while Copmanthorpe 2 went above opponents Knaresborough 1 in the bottom two following an away day victory.

Selby enjoyed a 64-44 win at York 3 in division 5 in a match of high-quality attacking tennis that saw the visitors go top of the table. A fine 25-game haul from Jack Wood and Paul Reddish was key to the victory.

David Lloyd 3 are a very close second in the table following their 68-40 home win over Rufforth.

Appleton Roebuck 2 currently foot the table. They lost 72-36 at Riccall, for whom all three pairs of George Lintott/Nick Clemshaw, Ian Cohen/Steve Capewell and Andrew Dunning/Scott Anderson registered scores in the twenties.

Heworth 1's close win at Fulford 2 sent them third.

Boston Spa 2 went top of division six with a 59-49 win over Pocklington.

York 4 had a resounding 82-26 triumph over Bishopthorpe 1. A superb 30 from top pair Ciaran Sullivan and teenager Finley Richardson made them the second top scorers of the week across the league.

York’s other pairs, Steve Bastable and Pete Finlay (27 games) and Rob Hodge and Robin Karfoot (23) were also on form, while a battling 17 from Lee Mainprize and Sam Watson provided some consolation for the visitors.

Wheldrake beat Sheriff Hutton to cut their opponents' lead at the top of division seven to one point.

Dunnington edged ahead of Strensall 2 at the top of division eight after comfortably beating Wigginton 5 85-23. There were excellent contributions from all three pairs of Grahame Hodson/Dave Scott (27), Oscar Hubble/Howard Widdall (28) and Alfie Hubble/Andy Ganga (30).

New Earswick won 69-39 at Bishopthorpe 2. The visiting team’s first pair of David Latimer and Antony Georgiou carried all before them with a magnificent 32-game haul, making them the top scorers of the week in the league.
