Malton & Norton Under-17s came from behind to beat Otley 40-22 thanks to a muchimproved second-half performance.

An indifferent first-half showing by Malton’s forwards saw the home side trail 17-12 at the interval.

Possession had been scarce and messy though some sublime handling led to tries by Charlie Greswold and Rob Dempsey, James Bulmer adding one conversion. Otley’s two tries had both come from Malton’s handling errors.

After the break, Malt started to take charge.

Quicker, cleaner ball enabled Sean Angus to release his backs to better effect and the game was played in Otley’s territory.

Lock George Hampshire bagged two tries and further touchdowns came from Neil Adams and Paul Sykes after some lovely interplay between forwards and backs with man-ofthe- match Dempsey being the catalyst both times. Bulmer added four more conversions to seal a third win in three league outings.

Prop Joe Tenge scored four tries as Malton & Norton U16s hammered Hullensians 46-0.

Malt dominated in all departments, with other touchdowns coming from Eddie Wilson, Josh Peirson, Joe Leak and, with an interception at the end, Michael McCourt. Paul Angus added three conversions.

Fly-half James Wood was man of the match as Malton & Norton U14s won 29-15 at Driffield.

Hamish Cunningham-Evans crashed over from Malt’s first attack, after good driving from Isaac Turnbull, but victory did not come easy.

Lucian Watts’ try made it 10-5 at half-time, with second-half tries following from Caleb Barratt, after some champagne rugby, Gareth Skelton, ripping the ball from a maul and driving several defenders back, and Ben Tenge, finishing one of several sweeping moves. Wood added two conversions.

Alastair Stent was energetic at flanker and Callum Young executed some fine tackles.

Malton & Norton U13s lost 31-17 in a fine game at Driffield. Both sides had players on East Yorkshire duty so tried new players and others in new positions.

Malt’s tries came from Josh Spittal, bursting up the blind side from a scrum for his first and feeding off the back of a forward drive for his second, and debutant Tyler Hodgson, with a superb long-ranger after catching the ball in his own 22.

MALTON & Norton’s under-19s players will be missed by the club’s third team if and when they are unable to play due to the new rule that says youth players can only turn out on a Saturday if they have no game on a Sunday.

The U19s again impressed in Malton 3rds’ 40-0 win over Selby 4ths. Selby only had one substitute and their switch to uncontested scrums after the break took fire out of the forward battle, all to Malt’s advantage, as they bagged 26 points in the second period.

Jack Cranidge, who shows great promise with pace to burn, was to the fore in back-play as man-of-thematch Tom Parsons got the first try.

Superb winger Matt Bell fed Cranidge who sent in Matt Midgley for the second try, and John Lumley got the third after half-time.

Spencer was yellow-carded for stepping into a tackle, but, down to 14 men, Malt began to pick up on Selby’s errors and a midfield mix-up saw Midgley score his second.

Selby also had a man yellow-carded, before Midgley completed a hattrick from anther loose ball. The last score came from Mark Sleightholme in a classic forward push-over try.

Paul Walker and Tom Martin added extras.
