Terrington Hall School retained their title when they held their fourth under-13s rugby union tournament for local schools after a tight decider against 2009 winners Easingwold.
This year the event was fought out between Easingwold, Malton, Ryedale and Terrington Hall, playing in a round robin format.
Easingwold beat Malton 22-0 and Ryedale 12-7, and Terrington defeated Malton 39-0 and Ryedale 31-0, so the third round set up an effective final between Easingwold and Terrington. In a tight match, Terrington scored twice without converting to Easingwold’s one converted try, for a 10-7 win.
In the play-off for third and fourth, Ryedale beat Malton 19-5.
Terrington headmaster Jon Glen said: “In an afternoon of competitive and enjoyable pre-season rugby I saw some exceptional performances, in particular from Ryedale’s flanker and captain, Owen Hayhurst, who was the outstanding player of the tournament.”
