MAN of the match Lawrence Blades and George Austin-Thompson led the try-scoring as Malton & Norton RUFC Under-14s beat Selby 46-26.

In the first minute of The Gannock clash, Austin-Thompson tackled an opponent and won possession, giving the backs time to put Blades away down the left for a try.

Malt's next two tries were almost identical. George Breese set up a ruck, Danny Scorfield launched his backs and slick passing led to scores for Austin-Thompson and Blades.

Selby stayed in the match with regular tries of their own, but Austin-Thompson helped Malt to a 34-19 lead with a try straight from a tap penalty, a second score after Iain Oakley's step and dart through the middle, and a final touchdown following a great drive from Ronan Fenwick through the heart of the defence.

The second half started with a break from Blades leading to the supporting Austin-Thompson racing over the whitewash.

Blades then kicked deep and regathered for his hat-trick.

Selby replied with a converted try before the final whistle.

Iain Oakley kicked two conversions and Joe Browne one.

Malton & Norton U12s welcomed Beverley and Scarborough for a triangular competition.

Malt were 40-5 winners against Beverley, with the opening score coming when Leon Cook surged forward and Alastair Keen arrived in support to cross.

Cook did the honours again from the restart with Luke Humphreys the beneficiary this time, crashing through the defence, and then Keen went blind for a fine solo effort.

Rory Watt chased a high ball and sent Humphreys bulldozing over for his second try and a 20-0 half-time lead.

Conor Saxby was first on the second half scoresheet before Beverley snatched one back. Guy Scothern, on rampaging form, then took a direct route to the line, scattering the defence for a try.

Following a scrum against the head, Max Lane charged upfield and Scothern made it a brace from the ensuing ruck. Cook closed the match out with the final score.

Malt then beat Scarborough 25-0 with tries from Cook (2), Bell, Keen and Scothern.

Lewis Hogarth made an impressive debut.

Malton & Norton U13s lost 34-15 at Hull in the Yorkshire Plate.

Josh Britton scored twice in the first half as Malt trailed 15-10 and then Fabien Marras scored to level early in the second half.

However, Hull added three further scores and two conversions.
