A RYEDALE school pupil has managed to balance homework and his hobby to pick up numerous sporting awards.

13-year-old Sam Morse, of Wiganthorpe, is celebrating after an extremely successful year of golf competitions which has seen him win major competition titles.

Alongside his school work, Sam has made time to train hard and became a member of the Kirkbymoorside golf club which he says has helped him to improve his technique.

He said: "I have been playing golf for about five years now and I am really pleased with this year.

"I like playing with the club because it's good fun and it has helped me to improve my golf as well."

Sam's most notable achievement so far this year was winning the title of the 1928 cup which now has his name engraved on and is on display at the Kirkbymoorside Golf Club.

His mum Elaine said: "I am so proud of what he has achieved and I'd like to encourage it because he is really good at what he does."
